Keep Your Personal Watercraft Safe For The Winter

Lake Havasu Jet Ski RentalsThe winter is not the ideal time for Jet Skiing. The water and the air are often too frigid to enjoy a high speed ride on the lake. So during the winter many people store their Lake Havasu Jet Skis somewhere safe for the cold season.

However, before you put on your Lake Havasu Jet Ski Covers and store your Lake Havasu Jet Ski, there are a few things that you can do to make sure your engine stays on top condition.

Note: Simply putting on Jet Ski covers and storing your Lake Havasu Jet Ski in a safe place is not really enough to ensure that your personal water craft will still function well later on. Prolonged storage can have a nasty effect on personal watercraft.

Preparing Your Lake Havasu Jet Ski For Storage

Before putting a cover on your Lake Havasu Jet Ski, you need to drain the engine and clean the watercraft first. As soon as you take the Jet Ski off the lake, drain the water from the engine carefully. You can do this by tilting the Jet Ski on its trailer. Raise the bow of the Jet Ski higher to ease the water out. Leave the Jet Ski in that position for awile to get as much of the water out of the engine as possible.

While in this inclined position, turn the engine of the Jet Ski on. Turn the handle back and forth to release water that is trapped in the engine. Repeat the process several times to make sure that all the water is completely removed from the engine. When draining the water out of the engine, avoid letting the engine run for more than 30 seconds at a time. Keeping the engine running for more than 30 seconds may cause the engine to overheat, so be careful.

Once you are sure that there is no more water inside the engine of your Lake Havasu Jet Ski, you may now proceed with the cleaning process. Always remember that putting on Jet Ski covers without cleaning your Jet Ski first may cause rusting and damage to your engine. If you don’t want to end up with corroded parts at the end of the winter, clean off the grime from your Jet Ski before putting on the Jet Ski cover.

Use soap and water to wash your Jet Ski thoroughly both in the inside and the outside. After washing your PWC, use some absorbent cloth to wipe it dry. After drying it off, wax the Jet Ski then put oil and lubricants into its metal parts before you finally put on your Jet Ski cover and put your Lake Havasu Jet Ski to rest for the cold season.
